  • Controlled release oral dosage forms: in order to obtain this kind of pharmaceutical product, the research group uses conventional preparation techniques and the innovative technique of prilling. Prilling, based on the laminar jet break-up, allows to obtain monolithic or core/shell particles with desired size and narrow size distribution. Furthermore, non conventional stabilization techniques, as microwawes and supercritical antisolvent extraction (SAE), are associated in tandem with prilling.
  • Pharmaceutical forms for the treatment of tissue wounds: in this kind of applications micro/nanoparticulate systems in situ gel forming, have been produced. These systems are obtained using supercritical assisted atomization(SAA) or piezoelectric atomization (Nano spray drier). These forms, because of the use of natural polymers as excipients, are able to gel rapidly when in contact with wound fluid, to be removed easily at the end of use and to stimulate the wound healing process.
  • Inhalable pharmaceutical forms: the research group mainly studies design and development of inhalable dry powders for the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis. The inhalable powders are produced by mini or nano spray drying, and then characterized using different kind of impactors (ACI, SSGI) to study their aerodynamic properties. Particularly, the aim of the research group is to use only natural excipients, without toxic effects on the airway mucosa on which the powder will impact.
